The Baby Blue Sound Collective is an ensemble featuring pediatric cardiologists, heart surgeons, and other medical professionals from Children's Hospitals around the world. Members are traveling to D.C. for this show at Blues Alley to benefit the Child Life Department at Children's National Hospital.
In their day jobs, most of the group take care of children with heart disease, but many are also researchers, educators and lecturers. Drs. Tom Karl (Congenital Cardiac Surgeon, NGO Gift of Life International), Jeff Boris (outpatient pediatric cardiologist) and Gil Wernovsky (Cardiac Critical Care, Children's National Hospital) lead the group. Past and present members (over 50) hail from 12 states in the USA, as well as Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, Great Britain, Japan, France, and Brazil.
The group performs primarily at medical meetings and charity events, rehearsing whenever they can find time. The musical genres are as diverse as the members, and include classical, jazz, pop, theater, blues, rock, and bluegrass. Much of their material is original, and can be found on their 2017 double CD "Home. Tonight. Forever."
